CM Yadav Orders Free Treatment for Melioidosis in MP

After AIIMS report confirmed cases in 20 districts, CM Mohan Yadav directed free treatment for farmers and health camps to combat melioidosis.

Concerns have grown in Madhya Pradesh regarding melioidosis, a deadly bacterial disease with symptoms similar to tuberculosis. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has directed the Health and Agriculture departments to take immediate action to prevent it. Free treatment and health camps have been announced, especially for farmers. Melioidosis is a rare but fatal bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Burkholderia pseudomallei. It spreads through contact with contaminated soil or water, particularly affecting farmers working in paddy fields. Its symptoms are similar to tuberculosis, including persistent fever, difficulty breathing, joint pain, and lung infections. If not treated promptly, it can be fatal.
On September 18th, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav directed the Principal Secretary of Health and the Principal Secretary of Agriculture to work jointly to prevent this disease. He has issued orders to set up special health camps for the screening, treatment, and prevention of farmers. If a farmer is found to be suffering from this disease, their entire treatment will be provided at government expense. This step was taken following a September 16 report from AIIMS Bhopal, which confirmed the disease in 130 patients across more than 20 districts of the state.

According to the report, the disease is spreading primarily in rural and agricultural areas. The Chief Minister stressed that the Health and Agriculture departments should jointly launch awareness campaigns to ensure farmers' safety. This includes soil testing, distribution of protective equipment, and immediate testing camps. The state government's goal is to control the disease and protect the health of farmers.
