Couple from Indore on Honeymoon: Husband Raja’s Body Found, Wife Sonam Still Missing
Indore, MP
A honeymoon trip turned tragic for a newlywed couple from Indore in Meghalaya. The body of Raja Raghuvanshi, missing for 11 days, was recovered from a deep gorge, while his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi remains untraced. Raja and Sonam had left for their honeymoon on May 20 and went missing on the evening of May 23 near Osra Hills area in Shillong.
The family initially suspected network issues, but concern deepened when both their phones were switched off from May 24. After continuous efforts, Raja’s brother Vipin and Sonam’s brother Govind joined the search team at the site.
Raja’s body was found 20-25 kilometers away from where the couple’s scooter was recovered. Identification was confirmed through his name tattooed on his hand. However, the exact cause of Raja’s death and how he reached that spot remain unclear. Meghalaya Police have announced they will hold a press conference soon to clarify the situation.
Local weather and terrain are major obstacles in the search operation. The area experiences heavy rainfall and is hilly, with rapidly changing weather. Dense fog is so thick that drones cannot fly. Dog squads and six local police teams are actively involved in the rescue efforts.
Meanwhile, the family expressed anger over statements by Meghalaya’s Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh. They claim the government is more focused on protecting tourism than ensuring tourist safety. If the area was considered sensitive, warning boards or forest guards should have been stationed there.
Raja’s brother said such incidents not only devastate families but also shake tourists’ confidence in travel destinations. The search for Sonam continues, with all eyes on the administration’s actions.
