Dense Fog and Cold Grip Madhya Pradesh; 22 Cities Below 10°C, Trains Heavily Delayed
Digital Desk
Intense cold and dense fog paralyzed parts of Madhya Pradesh on Monday, with 22 cities recording minimum temperatures below 10°C and Rajgarh emerging as the coldest at 4°C.
The biting chill, fueled by northerly winds, disrupted rail services severely. Malwa Express faced a delay of over seven hours, arriving in Bhopal around 3 PM instead of 7:25 AM.
Other key trains like Punjab Mail, Shatabdi Express, Jhelum Express, Sachkhand Express, and Karnataka Express also ran late by several hours, railway officials confirmed. Some services may catch up en route.
Major cities shivered through low nights: Bhopal at 5.6°C, Indore 6.4°C, Jabalpur 8°C, Gwalior 9°C, and Ujjain 9.5°C. Colder spots included Chhatarpur (Naugawan) at 5°C, Umaria 5°C, Pachmarhi 5.2°C, Malajkhand 5.3°C, and Mandla 5.8°C.
Fog slashed visibility, emptying morning walks in Umaria and forcing drivers in Gwalior and Tikamgarh to use headlights. In Ratlam, farmers warmed themselves with bonfires at markets.
Agriculture suffered too. In Raisen, the season's coldest night at 5°C froze dew on fields. Farmers lit fires to ward off frost, warning that further drops could harm crops.
The Meteorological Department urged caution during peak cold hours, advising limited travel and crop protection measures.
Residents bundled up, relying on warm clothes and heaters as the cold wave showed no signs of easing soon.
