Devar-Bhabhi Jump into Bahuti Waterfall After Posting Sindoor Video on Instagram; Missing for Four Days

A shocking incident unfolded at Bahuti Waterfall, the highest waterfall in Madhya Pradesh (476 feet), when a brother-in-law (Devar) and sister-in-law (Bhabhi) jumped into the gorge in front of their family after posting a video on Instagram. The two have been missing for four days, and a joint police and SDRF search operation is underway
Incident Details
According to eyewitnesses, the tragedy occurred on Wednesday evening. Despite relatives' desperate attempts to stop them, both leapt into the waterfall.
Eyewitness Rajendra Prasad Saket said:
“Both were sitting quietly near the waterfall. People tried talking to them, but suddenly the man jumped, and the woman followed immediately.”
Social Media Posts Before Suicide
Before taking the drastic step, Dinesh (the brother-in-law) posted a WhatsApp status and Instagram story, writing:
“We are very troubled. Can’t bear it anymore. We are going to commit suicide from Bahuti waterfall. We request the government to punish those responsible for our death.”
He also named Hiralal Sahu, Rajendra Sahu, Santosh Sahu, and Rajkumar Sahu as culprits in his post.
Shockingly, Dinesh shared a video of applying sindoor (vermillion) on Shakuntala’s maang before the suicide.
Timeline of Events
- July 19: Both Dinesh and Shakuntala went missing from home. Later, it was found they had traveled to Chhattisgarh.
- Wednesday: Dinesh posted photos and videos of the couple online.
- Shortly after, the family received information about their presence at Bahuti waterfall. Shakuntala’s mother and other relatives rushed there, but the couple jumped before they could intervene.
Family & Background
Shakuntala, mother of three daughters aged 11, 8, and 2, was married to Dinesh’s elder brother. The reasons behind their extreme step are under investigation.
