BJP MLA from Dharampuri, Kalu Singh Thakur, has alleged that he was targeted in a honey trap and extortion attempt, claiming that a woman and her associate demanded ₹2 crore and a four-wheeler while threatening to implicate him in false cases. The legislator said he was compelled to go public after police allegedly failed to act on his complaints.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Thakur named a woman and Asif Ali, a resident of Dharampuri, accusing them of trying to blackmail him. He alleged that after he refused their demands, he was subjected to abuse and intimidation. The MLA sought a fair investigation and immediate action by the district administration.
Detailing the sequence of events, Thakur said the woman first visited his local office in Dhamnod on December 23, seeking assistance while he was in Bhopal. According to him, she stayed at the office for a day and later contacted him, claiming she had rented accommodation in Bhopal and needed help shifting her belongings.
The following day, the woman reportedly travelled to Bhopal and visited the MLA’s residence. Thakur said she asked for ₹15,000 as financial assistance, which he declined. “After that, she left my residence,” he said.
Thakur alleged that about an hour and a half later, he received a phone call in which the woman accused him of summoning her to Bhopal with ulterior motives. He denied the allegation, stating that she had come on her own. He further claimed that during the call, the woman and Asif Ali abused him, demanded money, and threatened to lodge false legal complaints if their demands were not met.
The MLA said he approached the Dhamnod police station on December 25 but his complaint was not acted upon. He also claimed to have informed Inspector General Anurag by phone on December 27, with no subsequent action. On Wednesday, Thakur submitted written complaints to Dhar Collector Priyank Mishra and Superintendent of Police Mayank Awasthi.
In his complaint, Thakur made further allegations against the two accused, claiming they were involved in similar attempts to trap others in the area. He also said he had informed Chief Minister Mohan Yadav about the matter.
SP Mayank Awasthi said the allegations would be examined and appropriate action taken after investigation. He added that a case could also be registered against the MLA if facts so warranted. As of now, no FIR has been registered, and the district administration has not issued an official statement.
