Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh had given strict instructions regarding drink and drive checking, under which drivers are being checked with breath analyzer at intersections. Its objective was to prevent accidents caused by drunk driving. But the policemen deployed at the intersections are engaged in settlement instead of challaning.

Two-wheeler drivers are being taken to task for Rs 3000 and car drivers are being taken to task for Rs 5000 and left on the spot. Such cases have come to light in many police station areas of Indore, where drunk drivers were taken to task for money and allowed to go without any action. This collection is not only ignoring the instructions of senior officers, but also increasing the risk of road accidents due to drunk drivers.

Policemen scare drivers that their vehicle will be seized and it can be released only from the court. Taking advantage of this fear, they make a deal on the spot and collect money. After this, the drunk driver gives money to the police and again goes out driving drunk. Now the question arises whether the purpose of drink and drive checking is limited only to recovery?
