Driver Killed After Bike–Car Collision in Jabalpur; Furniture Businessman Stabbed to Death by Group of Bikers

A late-night road altercation in Jabalpur turned fatal after a furniture businessman was stabbed to death by a group of bikers following a collision between a car and a motorcycle. Police have registered a murder case and launched a search for the accused, who fled the scene after the attack.
The incident occurred late Sunday night near the Durga Temple in the Ranjhi police station area. After a head-on collision between a car and a motorcycle, a dispute broke out on the road. During the argument, the bike rider allegedly abused the car driver and subsequently called five accomplices to the spot. The group then attacked the driver with knives, leaving him critically injured.
The deceased has been identified as Akanksh Sahu, a resident of Adhartal, who was engaged in the furniture business. Police said Sahu was standing on the road after the collision when the assailants surrounded and assaulted him.
The collision occurred between 11 pm and midnight on Sunday. Local residents rushed the injured man to the district hospital, where he was admitted in a critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Monday morning.
According to preliminary police findings, the argument escalated rapidly after the accident. The motorcyclist allegedly summoned additional attackers, who arrived armed with knives. After stabbing Sahu multiple times, the group escaped before police could reach the spot.
Ranjhi police have registered a case of murder against unknown persons. CSP Satish Sahu visited the scene with his team on Monday and said CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to identify and trace the attackers.
Police said Akanksh Sahu was returning home after meeting friends in the Gokulpur area when the collision occurred. Investigators are also questioning witnesses and scanning mobile location data to reconstruct the sequence of events.
In a separate incident highlighting growing street violence, a railway senior section engineer was stabbed on the night of February 7 in the Garha police station area. The victim, Kunal Kumar (35), was attacked near Suvidha Market in Shaktinagar after two youths on a motorcycle allegedly demanded ₹2,000 for alcohol. When he refused, one of the accused stabbed him in the thigh and hand before fleeing.
The injured engineer managed to escape and was admitted to a private hospital. Police said both accused are aged between 20 and 30 years and are being searched for.
Police officials said intensified patrolling and targeted operations are underway to curb violent crimes. Authorities have urged citizens to immediately report road altercations and suspicious activity to prevent escalation.
