Filthy Flour Units Sealed in Indore as Food Safety Teams Launch Citywide Crackdown

Food safety officials sealed multiple manufacturing units in Palda and Samta Nagar after uncovering unhygienic and unsafe production practices, marking the second major enforcement action in as many days.

A team from the district food safety department raided S. Kumar & Company in Samta Nagar, where in-charge Sandeep Agrawal was present. Inspectors reported floors littered with dirt, contaminated work surfaces and improper storage that posed direct health hazards. Four samples of wheat and flour were collected, and the premises were declared unfit for any food-related activity. Manufacturing was halted immediately.

A follow-up inspection at Maa Ambe Supari Sikayi Kendra revealed raw supari being roasted in similarly questionable conditions. Two samples of roasted supari and the lime used in processing were lifted for laboratory testing.

The latest actions come a day after officials shut down Jaidev Enterprises, a spice repacking unit in Palda’s Bardan Mandi, for operating without a valid food licence. Inspectors found coriander and chilli powders being repackaged with labels carrying two different manufacturing addresses, raising concerns over traceability. Around 2,500 kg of spices were seized, and six samples of haldi, coriander and chilli powder were collected. Owner Archana Gupta and in-charge Shashikant Gupta were present during the inspection.

The enforcement drive extended to Indrapuri, where teams collected samples from several eateries, including tomato ketchup from Thunder Point & Juice Bar, cooked vegetables and staples from Dr. Mamta Rasoi, masala sandwich and soybean oil from Gwalior House, and paneer momos and refined flour from Gupchup Café.

Collector Shivam Verma stressed that clean and safe food remains the administration’s top priority. All collected samples have been sent to the State Food Testing Laboratory in Bhopal, and officials said further legal action will follow once reports are received.
