Gangster Kapil Yadav Arrested After Early-Morning Encounter in Gwalior

Gwalior police arrested wanted gangster Kapil Yadav on Monday morning after a brief encounter in which he was shot in the leg. Yadav, accused of assaulting a BJP leader and his brother last week over a land dispute, was traced after an overnight search operation.

The operation began around 4 a.m. when police received intelligence that Yadav and his associate, Aman Yadav, were moving in a Wagon R near the Mela Ground. The area was quickly cordoned off. Aman was caught with a pistol during the initial chase, but Kapil fled into nearby lanes, prompting a wider search.

After nearly two hours, a police team located him near a brick kiln in Mohanpur. As officers approached, Kapil opened fire. Police retaliated, injuring him in the leg and overpowering him within minutes. He was taken to the JAH Trauma Centre, where officers later questioned him under supervision.

SSP Dharmveer Singh said Kapil had been on the run since November 21, when he and three associates allegedly attacked BJP leader Puran Singh Bhadauria and his brother Vinod during a dispute over a plot in Badagaon, Murar. According to police, Kapil tried to forcibly seize the land despite the matter being sub judice. When Bhadauria objected, the group allegedly fired shots and beat both brothers with sticks and a spade, leaving Vinod with a fractured leg.

Police said Kapil has 12 serious criminal cases against him, including murder, attempted murder and extortion. A reward of ₹10,000 had been announced for information leading to his arrest.

CSP Nagendra Singh Sikarwar and TI Maina Patel led Monday’s operation, which concluded after a 10-minute exchange of fire. Police are now verifying whether the weapons seized from Kapil and Aman were used during the attack on the BJP leader. Further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
