Digital Desk
Diwali 2025 is set to be a budget-friendly festival with GST reductions making sweets, snacks, electronics, and vehicles more affordable. The elimination of 12% and 28% GST slabs has shifted most items to a 5% tax bracket or made them tax-free, delivering savings of Rs.3,000–Rs.12,000 for households.
For a Rs.15,000 Diwali budget, shoppers can save Rs.1,050–Rs.1,800, depending on the product. Consumer electronics like TVs, ACs, and dishwashers now carry an 18% GST (down from 28%), offering savings of Rs.2,000–Rs.10,000. For instance, a 43-inch smart TV that cost Rs.40,000 is now Rs.36,000, allowing buyers to splurge on extras like decorative lights or gifts.
Two-wheelers under 350cc also benefit, with GST reduced from 28% to 18%. A 100cc bike priced at Rs.1.05 lakh now costs Rs.94,500, saving buyers Rs.10,500. Small cars and SUVs see similar cuts, with a Rs.7 lakh car now at Rs.6.30 lakh, a Rs.70,000 saving. Showrooms report a 25–70% sales surge due to these changes.
Clothing priced up to Rs.2,500 enjoys a GST drop from 12% to 5%, benefiting both online and offline shoppers equally. Experts like Mukul Sharma highlight that these reductions, part of GST 2.0, lower the tax burden on automobiles from nearly 50% to 18%, boosting household budgets by 10% monthly. Increased consumer spending is expected to drive retail and manufacturing growth this festive season.
