Hanuman Jayanti celebrations draw crowds at Gwalior temples

Devotees throng Gwalior temples on Hanuman Jayanti; special rituals, 5100 laddoos offering and community feasts mark the festival.

 

Massive temple turnout

Gwalior witnessed large gatherings at temples across the city on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, with devotees queuing up since early morning to offer prayers. The festival, marking the birth of Lord Hanuman, was celebrated with religious fervour and elaborate rituals at prominent shrines.

From the early hours, crowds surged at major temples, including the historic Rokadiya Hanuman Temple located at Chhatri Maidan, a site associated with the erstwhile Scindia state. Devotees participated in पूजा-अर्चना and sought blessings amid tight arrangements by local authorities.

Early morning rituals

Temple authorities began rituals as early as 4 am, starting with abhishek and special pooja ceremonies. After the ceremonial dressing of the deity with a chola (sacred cloth), temple gates were opened for public .

Religious chants and bhajans echoed across temple premises as priests conducted continuous rituals throughout the day. According to temple authorities, preparations had been underway for several days to manage the expected turnout.

5100 laddoos offering

A key highlight of the celebrations was the offering of 5,100 laddoos at the Rokadiya Hanuman Temple. The prasad was later distributed among devotees.

Alongside this, a Sundarkand path was organised, drawing participation from a large number of श्रद्धालु. Floral decorations, including a specially arranged ‘phool bangla’, and the traditional ‘chhappan bhog’ further added to the festive atmosphere.

Crowds at old temples

Heavy footfall was also reported at the 300-year-old Manshapurna Hanuman Temple situated beneath the railway overbridge. Devotees stood in long queues stretching beyond the temple premises to seek blessings.

Officials on-site indicated that crowd management measures were in place to ensure smooth movement and avoid congestion during peak hours.

Fairs at nearby shrines

Beyond the city, large gatherings were recorded at temples in surrounding areas. At the ‘Dhuaan Wale Hanuman Temple’ in Ghatigaon, nearly 45 kilometres from Gwalior, a Religious fare attracted devotees from nearby districts.

Similarly, the Jaurasi Hanuman Temple on the Gwalior-Jhansi road witnessed continuous inflow of pilgrims since morning, reflecting the widespread significance of the occasion in the region.

Akhand Ramayan recitation

At Bahodapur Dham Temple, an Akhand Ramayan paath that began a day earlier continued through the celebrations. The recitation is scheduled to conclude on Thursday evening.

Temple authorities also adorned the deity with a gold-layered chola, maintaining a long-standing tradition associated with the shrine.

Community feasts organised

Several locations across the city hosted bhandaras (community feasts), where free meals were distributed to devotees and visitors. Local groups and temple committees coordinated these efforts, ensuring food availability throughout the day.

Such initiatives are considered an integral part of Hanuman Jayanti celebrations, promoting community participation .

Public participation impact

The large turnout highlighted the cultural and religious importance of Hanuman Jayanti in Madhya Pradesh. According to local inputs, security and traffic arrangements were strengthened in sensitive zones to manage the influx.
