A thirty-year-old private company employee was killed early Wednesday morning after a speeding car struck him and then ran over him while reversing outside Shiv Multicare Hospital in the Satlapur police station area. The accused driver has been arrested within 24 hours of the incident, police said.
The victim, identified as Krishna Pal, was employed at HEG Company and was reportedly on his way to work when the accident occurred around 5 a.m. According to investigators, the car hit him with such force that he was thrown nearly five feet into the air before landing on the road.
What followed, police said, was even more shocking. Instead of stopping to assist, the driver allegedly reversed the vehicle, crushing Krishna Pal under the rear wheel. He died on the spot. The driver fled immediately after the incident.
CCTV footage from cameras installed near the hospital captured the sequence of events. The video later surfaced and proved crucial in identifying the vehicle and tracing the accused.
Satlapur police station in-charge Vijay Tripathi said officers reached the scene soon after receiving information about a body lying on the road. “The body was sent for post-mortem examination. Based on CCTV evidence and vehicle details, we identified and arrested the accused, who is a resident of Mandideep,” Tripathi said.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to causing death by negligence and rash driving. Police are examining whether additional charges may be invoked after reviewing the footage and forensic findings.
The stretch outside Shiv Multicare Hospital witnesses regular early-morning pedestrian movement, especially by industrial workers commuting to nearby units in Mandideep and surrounding areas. Locals have raised concerns over speeding vehicles along the road, particularly before dawn when traffic enforcement is limited.
Krishna Pal’s death has sparked anger among residents and co-workers, who demanded strict action against reckless driving. His body was handed over to family members after the post-mortem.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the collision, including the speed of the vehicle and whether the driver was under the influence at the time.
Authorities reiterated that stringent action would be taken against violations of traffic laws and urged motorists to exercise caution, especially in areas with pedestrian movement.
