Hit-and-Run in Gwalior: Woman Killed After Being Hit by Auto While Crossing Road

A 48-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Gwalior’s Kampoo police station area on Tuesday night. The victim, identified as Shashi Gupta, a resident of Lahar in Bhind district, was crossing the road near the Ashok Travels office when an unidentified auto-rickshaw struck her. The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage, which is now under police review.

According to police reports, Shashi Gupta was on her way with her family to catch a bus to Indore when the speeding auto hit her. The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision. Bystanders rushed to help, but the woman succumbed to her injuries on the spot.

The Kampoo police have registered an FIR against the unidentified driver and launched an investigation. “We have obtained CCTV footage from the area and are working to identify the vehicle and driver involved,” said an officer from the investigation team. The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination under police supervision.

Authorities said the case highlights rising concerns over road safety and negligence in the city. Police have appealed to local residents to come forward with any information related to the vehicle or driver.

Recent data and incidents suggest a surge in hit-and-run cases in Gwalior, raising questions about pedestrian safety and enforcement of traffic laws. Officials emphasized the need for stricter monitoring and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
