IAS Santosh Verma Draws Fresh Backlash After New Video Surfaces; Brahmin Organisations Demand Action

IAS officer Santosh Kumar Verma, already facing criticism over his controversial remarks at an AJAKS convention in November, is embroiled in a new dispute after a video surfaced in which he is heard saying, “How many Santosh Vermas will you kill? How many will you burn? How many will you swallow? Now every household will produce a Santosh Verma.” The clip, circulating widely on social media, lacks clarity on when and where it was recorded but has intensified demands for action against him.

The renewed outrage follows ongoing protests by Brahmin organisations over Verma’s earlier comments involving Brahmin daughters. Akhil Bhartiya Brahmin Samaj leader Pushpendra Mishra said the government’s inaction has emboldened the officer. “Despite derogatory statements, no FIR has been filed. If action is not taken soon, the community will be compelled to protest,” he said, urging the Chief Minister to intervene.

Verma, responding to the viral video, said the statement was made during an internal meeting at the AJAKS office and was a reference to remarks by Bhim Army MP Chandrashekhar. “Nothing wrong was said. It was part of a discussion with association officials,” he told Dainik Bhaskar.

The controversy comes as the state government has clarified in the Assembly that Verma is not recognised as the president of AJAKS. Responding to a query by MLA Rajendra Bharti, the General Administration Department stated that Mukesh Maurya is the organisation’s official president. The Registrar of Firms & Societies also noted that officer-employee bodies do not receive formal recognition under law.

Verma has countered the government’s stand, calling Maurya’s appointment “fraudulent” and demanding an inquiry under provisions of the MP Societies Registration Act.

The officer had earlier triggered outrage on November 23 at the AJAKS provincial convention in Bhopal, where he remarked that reservation should continue in a family “until my son is married or receives a daughter from a Brahmin.” The state government issued him a notice on November 26, citing violations of service conduct rules and seeking an explanation within seven days, with disciplinary action likely if he fails to respond.
