Indore Terminal Inaugurated
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday inaugurated the new Terminal-1 at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport, marking a significant step in the state’s expanding aviation infrastructure. The development comes amid a broader push to enhance regional connectivity and make air travel accessible to a wider population.
The Chief Minister said the Indore Airport expansion reflects the rapid transformation of India’s aviation sector and aligns with national efforts to improve air connectivity across urban and semi-urban regions.
Aviation Access Expands
Addressing the gathering, Yadav emphasised that air travel in India is no longer limited to elite sections of society. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for policies that have democratised aviation, making it affordable even for first-time flyers.
“Air travel has become accessible to every section of society,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the pace of aviation growth in the country is “unimaginable” compared to previous decades.
Modern Facilities Introduced
The newly inaugurated terminal at Indore Airport is equipped with modern passenger amenities designed to enhance travel experience. Built over an area of around 6,000 square metres, the upgraded terminal can handle approximately 400 passengers per hour.
Officials indicated that the facility includes 14 check-in counters, a seating capacity of around 300 passengers, and parking space for nearly 150 vehicles. The airport is now capable of managing up to 18 flight operations, with an annual passenger handling capacity of 1.5 million.
Affordable Travel Push
In a move aimed at improving passenger convenience, the state government has also introduced an “Udaan Yatri Café” at the airport. According to officials, the café will offer tea at โน10 and snacks at โน20, making basic refreshments affordable for travellers.
The initiative is expected to benefit passengers from diverse economic backgrounds and aligns with the broader objective of promoting inclusive growth in aviation services.
Recognition for Indore
The Chief Minister also highlighted that Indore’s aviation infrastructure has received international recognition. The airport has been awarded a quality certification by the American Quality Council, acknowledging its standards in passenger services and operational efficiency.
Yadav handed over the certification to airport authorities during the event, describing it as a milestone for the city’s growing stature in the aviation sector.
Statewide Expansion Plans
Detailing future plans, Yadav said Madhya Pradesh is working towards significantly expanding its aviation network. Currently, the state has eight operational airports, along with 20 airstrips and 220 helipads.
He noted that new airports have recently become operational in Rewa, Satna, and Datia, while preparations are underway for additional facilities in Ujjain and Shivpuri. The government aims to ensure the availability of a commercial airport every 150 kilometres, an airstrip every 75 kilometres, and a helipad every 45 kilometres across the state.
Logistics Hub Vision
The expansion of aviation infrastructure is part of a broader strategy to position Madhya Pradesh as a logistics hub. Officials said improved air connectivity, along with ongoing road and rail development projects, will strengthen trade and mobility across the region.
The Chief Minister added that integrated development across transport sectors is expected to boost economic activity and attract investment.
Future Outlook Ahead
The Indore Airport expansion is likely to play a key role in handling rising passenger traffic and supporting regional economic growth. According to officials, continued investments in aviation infrastructure will further enhance connectivity and accessibility in the coming years.
The project also aligns with national priorities to strengthen regional air networks and promote balanced development across states, making air travel more inclusive and efficient.
