Indore: Family Reaches City Three Days After Woman Constable’s Suicide, Police Probe Personal Angle
Digital Desk
Three days after the death of 28-year-old police constable Priya Yadav, her family reached Indore on Saturday as investigators continued to examine personal circumstances that may have led to her suicide. Yadav, posted in the DRP Line, was found hanging in her rented accommodation in the Aerodrum area on Wednesday.
Her mother, brother, and maternal uncle’s son visited Aerodrum Police Station around 9 am and met ASI Manoj Kumar to record their statements. Family members told police that Yadav had mentioned her acquaintance with a man named Kavindra, a fellow constable, but they were unaware the two had been living together.
According to police, Yadav originally hailed from Munger district in Bihar. She had married Amit Kumar in 2014 against her family’s wishes, leading to a break in relations due to community pressures. The family reconnected with her only after Amit’s death in 2021. She later received a compassionate appointment and was posted in Indore in early 2023.
Relatives said Yadav met Kavindra during duty. He had been posted at Chhatripura Police Station and later shifted to the traffic department. Both belonged to nearby villages in Bihar. The two had reportedly lived together for the past three years, and Yadav had discussed marriage with him, though he had not agreed to a date. According to the family, his relatives had opposed the match.
Investigators are now looking into whether relationship disputes played a role in the events leading up to Yadav’s death. Police have begun examining call records and other evidence while awaiting further statements from Kavindra’s family, who have also been contacted.
Officials said all angles including personal stress, disagreements, or external pressures are being scrutinised. The postmortem report has confirmed death by hanging. Further inquiries are underway as police attempt to piece together Yadav’s final hours.
