Indore Launches India’s First Digital Address Pilot Project: A Single Scan for Multiple Services

In a move toward strengthening smart governance and digital infrastructure, the Indore Municipal Corporation has launched a pilot project for digital addresses under the leadership of Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav. Starting from Ward 82 (Zone 14), this initiative makes Indore the first city in India to adopt the DigiPIN platform, a Government of India initiative.

The pilot officially kicked off on Sunday at Triveni Corner, Sector D, 60 Feet Road, Sudama Nagar, where digital address plates were installed at residential properties. These plates include a unique GPS-based Digital Address Code (DAC), cleanliness rating, key municipal service information, and a QR code. Citizens can scan the QR code to instantly access complete details about the property, taxes, services, and civic information.

A Game Changer in Urban Governance

Commissioner Shivam Verma called the project “a historic step” towards transparent and technology-driven citizen services. He emphasized the importance of public participation in ensuring the success of this innovation.

Mayor Bhargav also addressed BJP State President V.D. Sharma via video call, briefing him about the project and future expansion plans. “Sudama Nagar will now serve as the digital model for Indore,” he stated. “We are integrating smart roads, drainage systems, and now digital profiles to strengthen our vision of a smart city.”

Key Features of the Digital Address System

  1. Unique Digital Address Code (DAC): Every property will have a distinct code for accurate identification.

  2. QR-enabled Address Plate: A scan reveals ownership, tax records, cleanliness rating, and more.

  3. Integrated Civic Services: All services like water, waste, complaints, and payments accessible via one platform.

  4. Digital Governance Backbone: Enables real-time tracking and service delivery at exact locations.

Benefits for Residents

  • One-scan access to all property and service-related data

  • Increased transparency in taxation, sanitation, and complaints

  • Accurate deliveries for e-commerce, postal, and government schemes

  • Verified ownership records

  • Quick location tracking in emergencies

The pilot launch ceremony saw the presence of Commissioner Shivam Verma, Water Department Head Abhishek Sharma, Health In-charge Ashwini Shukla, Councillor Shanu Sharma, and many local residents.

Indore Sets a National Benchmark

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Bhargav highlighted the challenge of unclear or inaccurate addresses in rapidly growing urban spaces like Indore. “This initiative blends digital identity with public services. Our vision is 'One Home – One Digital ID' that sets a benchmark for the rest of the nation,” he said.

He further announced that statues of Narmada Mata, Swami Vivekananda, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee will also be installed in the locality by the end of this year.

Started from a Writer’s Home

The project was inaugurated at the residence of renowned writer Sadashiv Kautuk. He expressed gratitude for the honor of being chosen as the starting point of such a transformative initiative.

“This is a proud moment for us,” said Kautuk. “Digital plates with QR codes ensure property information is secure, accessible, and linked to a verified profile.”

City-wide Expansion Coming Soon

The Mayor concluded by stating that every household in Indore will eventually receive a digital profile (DP) similar to social media display pictures. With just a scan, citizens will be able to access all municipal services, pay taxes, and contact officials – all without stepping out of their homes.
