Indore Man Attacks Family, Holds Them Hostage; Brother Dies After Trying to Save Sister

A late-night attack in Indore’s Sukhdev Nagar area turned fatal after a man stabbed a young woman and her family members inside their home, holding them hostage for nearly 20 minutes. The incident occurred late Monday night in the Aerodrum police station limits and resulted in the death of the woman’s brother, police said on Tuesday.

According to investigators, the accused, identified as Vedant Solanki, forcibly entered the house of Vidhi, a young woman he had known earlier, and attacked her with a knife. Vidhi, her brother Vidhan, and their mother Anita sustained injuries during the assault. Vidhan later succumbed to his wounds during treatment at a hospital.

Police said Solanki arrived at the residence allegedly carrying a grievance stemming from prolonged personal disputes. He reportedly insisted on speaking to Vidhi, who had repeatedly refused contact. When she declined again, the situation escalated. “The accused attacked the woman with a sharp weapon. Her brother intervened to protect her and suffered serious injuries,” a senior police officer said.

During the attack, Vidhi managed to flee to a balcony and lock herself inside while raising an alarm. Neighbours alerted the police, who reached the spot within minutes. By then, Solanki had also injured himself with the weapon. Officers negotiated with him before taking him into custody. All three injured family members were rushed to hospital, where Vidhan later died.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Vidhi and Solanki first came into contact at a coaching centre where he was employed. Over time, his behaviour allegedly turned obsessive, with repeated attempts to follow and contact her. Family members told police they had earlier warned him to stay away.

Officials confirmed that a complaint had been made days before the attack, following which Solanki and his relatives submitted a written apology at the police station. “The family believed the matter had been resolved. Unfortunately, the accused returned armed and violent,” an officer said.

The incident has triggered anger among local residents, who gathered outside the house and later at the police station, demanding strict action. Police have registered a case of murder, attempted murder, and unlawful confinement. Forensic teams examined the scene, and statements from witnesses and neighbours are being recorded.

Authorities said further investigation will determine whether the attack was premeditated and whether any warning signs were missed. Police have assured the family of a thorough probe and said security arrangements in the area have been strengthened.
