Indore MBA Student Accuses Former Classmate of Rape, Blackmail and Pressure for Religious Conversion

An MBA student in Indore has accused a former college acquaintance of rape, blackmail and coercing her to convert religion, prompting police to register a fresh case against the accused, identified as Hams Sheikh. The complaint was filed late Wednesday night at the Tilak Nagar police station by the survivor and her husband.

According to the FIR, the accused allegedly befriended the woman during college while introducing himself as “Honey.” The complainant stated that he later entered her home and raped her, and continued to pressure her even after her marriage in August this year. Police said the accused had earlier proposed marriage during their college years, and communication resumed briefly after he apologised when she distanced herself.

The survivor told officers that the harassment escalated after her marriage, with Hams allegedly threatening to disclose their past relationship to her husband if she refused to meet him. She accused him of repeated blackmail and of forcing her to consider marriage and religious conversion.

Police records show that Hams Sheikh already faced a molestation case filed nearly ten days ago, after he was allegedly caught attempting to force a female student into his car near Piplyahana Bridge. Local Karni Sena members intervened in that incident and handed him over to the police, leading to a separate FIR.

Sources familiar with the earlier case said BJP Mandal President of Assembly-5, Azhar Sheikh, allegedly phoned Karni Sena representatives urging them to show leniency toward Hams and facilitate his release. The political leader has not publicly responded to the allegation.

Investigators are now examining both cases, including whether there is a pattern of targeted harassment. Police said efforts are underway to locate and arrest the accused, who has been missing since the second FIR was registered. The survivor is undergoing counselling as part of the standard protocol in sexual-offence investigations.
