Police in Indore’s Dwarkapuri police station are interrogating Piyush Dhamnodia, the main accused in the murder of an MBA student. The accused is currently in police custody on a three-day remand. During questioning, he admitted that he had attempted to commit suicide in front of a train but backed away out of fear.
During the interrogation, Additional DCP reported that Piyush requested plain paper on which he wrote that he had done wrong and caused harm. He also expressed that he was in love with the student and now felt compelled to die. The accused also mentioned to police that he wanted to meet the student.
According to officials, Piyush had previously given a similar statement at Andheri police station in Mumbai and had searched for suicide methods on YouTube, though he did not act on them. He is reportedly trying to maintain a normal appearance while planning to study in jail and manipulate circumstances to secure his release from the case.
Investigation revealed that Piyush hacked the student’s mobile phone to monitor her WhatsApp chats and repeatedly checked her call history. The mobile was used to interrogate her about any contact with other boys and was later deactivated.
Police apprehended the accused on a train from Goa to Maharashtra after tracing the location using the victim’s mobile. The victim, an MBA student, had been missing since February 10. She had told her father she was going to a birthday party with classmate Piyush but did not return home that night.
Authorities confirmed that after committing the murder, Piyush sent messages from the victim’s phone to her sister, stating, “Tell Papa she will not return home.” Further investigation revealed that the accused shared 11 objectionable videos of the victim on college groups and WhatsApp statuses, creating panic among relatives.
On Monday, police had the victim’s younger sister and cousin identify her belongings and provided information regarding her meetings with Piyush, visits to his house, and other interactions.
Officials said Piyush previously lived in Banganga area and moved to Dwarkapuri in October. He had a history of substance use, which he concealed from the victim. His actions have caused a major stir in the neighborhood, and police are closely monitoring his activities until the investigation is complete.
