Indore Metro Completes 17 km Trial Run; Full Operations Expected Next Year
Digital Desk
Indore, 22 hours ago – Indore Metro achieved a major milestone on Thursday as its train successfully completed the longest trial run so far, covering 17 km from Gandhinagar station to Radisson Square. This marks the first time the Metro has reached the city’s central areas, highlighting significant progress in the project.
Previous trials were limited to shorter stretches—initially 7 km and later extended to 13 km. Thursday’s 17 km trial sets the stage for full operations on this route, expected by next year.
Journey Through New Areas:
The trial took the Metro through localities like Sukhliya, Vijay Nagar, and Malviya Nagar, delighting residents who saw the train for the first time. The Metro slowed near Chandragupta Maurya statue square, where crowds gathered to watch and cheer. The train completed the run in about an hour at a deliberately reduced speed for testing. Officials said speed will gradually increase in future trials until full operational speed is reached. The train then returned to Gandhinagar depot.
Stations Under Construction:
Three stations along the 17 km route are still incomplete, delaying the start of commercial services. Authorities expect construction to finish within four months, after which the Metro Corporation will seek CMRS approval for passenger operations.
Future Plans and Challenges:
The current 17 km stretch is expected to be operational for the public by 2026. Extending the line further toward Khajrana Square will take longer, as construction beyond Radisson Square is still underway. The trial demonstrated smooth operations along the route, building confidence for gradual expansion.
Excited Residents:
Indoreans expressed excitement as the Metro entered city limits for the first time. Residents waved from roadsides while children clapped at the horn. For commuters, the trial offered a glimpse of a future where they can travel conveniently between city hubs like Vijay Nagar, Radisson Square, Gandhinagar, and eventually the airport.
