Indore Police Seize 1,000 Alprazolam Tablets, Suspect Linked to Rajasthan-Based Supply

Indore’s Narcotics Wing on Tuesday seized over 1,000 Alprazolam tablets and arrested a man, Faizal, in a major crackdown targeting the illegal circulation of prescription drugs. Acting on intelligence inputs, police detained the suspect, who has been under surveillance for allegedly supplying controlled substances across the city.
Officials said the confiscated stock, valued at several lakh rupees in the black market, highlights the growing misuse of prescription sedatives as recreational narcotics. “This seizure reflects a larger trend where pharmaceutical drugs are diverted into illicit use, posing serious health and safety risks,” said DSP Narcotics Santosh Hada.
Alleged Rajasthan Link and Local Distribution
During preliminary questioning, Faizal admitted sourcing the tablets from Rajasthan. Police are examining his mobile records, travel history, and contacts to trace the supply chain and identify intermediaries and buyers. Investigators believe the suspect sold Alprazolam at inflated prices across multiple Indore localities, primarily to habitual users and young consumers seeking intoxicating effects.
Understanding Alprazolam Misuse
Alprazolam, a Schedule H psychotropic drug in India, is prescribed for anxiety, panic attacks, and severe stress. Misuse can lead to dependency, impaired judgment, and drowsiness. Criminal networks exploit its sedative properties for recreational highs, mixing with alcohol, facilitating drugged crimes, or enhancing other narcotics.
Investigating a Wider Network
The Narcotics Wing is probing whether the seizure is part of an interstate racket. Officers aim to identify suppliers, local distributors, and potential higher-level operators. More arrests are expected as the investigation unfolds.
Faizal remains in custody, with authorities continuing to map the network. Hada emphasized that the operation is part of a sustained effort to dismantle criminal channels trafficking pharmaceutical drugs into the narcotics market, underlining law enforcement’s commitment to public safety.
Indore has seen a rising trend in prescription drug misuse, and police officials warn citizens against illegal procurement and consumption of controlled substances.
