Residents of Ward 49 in Indore raised concerns over irregular and contaminated water supply during a water grievance hearing held on Tuesday at the Mahavir Bagh water tank in Tilak Nagar. The hearing was organised under the “Sankalp se Samadhan” campaign, with Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav assuring residents that complaints would be addressed through prompt coordination between departments.
The ward-level hearing was part of a citywide initiative being conducted across all wards under the guidance of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, aimed at resolving civic grievances directly at the local level. Along with the Mayor, the event was attended by Ward 49 councillor and MIC member Rajesh Udavat, Mayor’s representative Vivek Sinha, zonal officers, and officials from the water supply department.
Addressing residents, Mayor Bhargav explained that the campaign was designed to ensure welfare schemes and essential civic services reach beneficiaries without delay. He said water-related hearings are being held every Tuesday in all wards to allow residents to directly convey problems and enable officials to take immediate action. “These camps are meant to bridge the gap between citizens and the administration,” he said.
During the interaction, residents highlighted several long-pending issues, including erratic water timings, supply of muddy or contaminated water, and frequent breakdowns caused by ageing pipelines. Many residents complained that the condition of old water lines had led to repeated disruptions, particularly during peak summer months.
The Mayor personally reviewed written complaints submitted by residents and instructed officials to prioritise areas affected by contaminated water. He directed that old and damaged pipelines be identified and replaced on a priority basis. In localities where repeated complaints have been received, officials were told to connect households to the Narmada water supply line to ensure clean and consistent water delivery.
Civic officials present at the site informed the Mayor about ongoing pipeline replacement work and assured that technical surveys would be carried out to identify vulnerable stretches. The Mayor emphasised that delays in resolving basic civic issues would not be tolerated and asked officers to maintain regular communication with residents until problems are fully resolved.
The hearing concluded with directions to expedite pipeline upgrades and improve monitoring of water quality. Officials were also instructed to provide residents with clear information regarding timelines and follow-up actions.
The “Sankalp se Samadhan” campaign is expected to continue across Indore in the coming weeks, with similar ward-level hearings planned to address water supply and other civic concerns in a time-bound manner.
