A 21-year-old woman in Indore has accused a man of repeated rape, torture, blackmail, and attempts at forced religious conversion. The accused, identified as Happy Punjabi alias Irfan Ali, was detained late Sunday night by members of the Karni Sena and handed over to the Vijaynagar police.
According to officials, a case has been registered against Irfan Ali under multiple sections, including rape and forced conversion. The accused, reportedly externed from Dewas district earlier, was caught near the bypass after activists received information about his alleged activities.
Police said the victim had come in contact with Irfan in 2023 while searching for a job. He allegedly introduced himself under a false identity and gradually gained her trust. The woman claimed that Irfan took her to Dewas, where he subjected her to repeated sexual assault and physical torture. “He burned me with cigarettes, forced me to eat meat, and coerced me to convert,” the survivor alleged in her statement to the police.
The complaint further mentions that Irfan also compelled one of his friends to assault her and supplied narcotics at private parties and clubs. Police sources said they are verifying these claims and gathering information about his associates.
Vijaynagar police have initiated a detailed investigation and sent the victim for medical examination. “We have registered a case based on the survivor’s complaint and are questioning the accused,” a senior officer said.
The incident has triggered strong reactions from local groups, who have demanded strict punishment for the accused. Authorities have assured that the investigation will proceed under the supervision of senior officials to ensure a transparent and fair probe.
