A 22-year-old man from Shivaji Nagar in the Pardeshipura area died by suicide on November 14 after allegedly facing repeated threats and pressure from his girlfriend and her family. The deceased, Abhishek Prajapat, was found hanging in his home on Friday evening by his younger sister, prompting a police investigation that now includes video evidence recovered from his phone.
According to police sources, a video call surfaced two days after Abhishek’s death, showing the girlidentified by the family as Khushi placing a noose around her neck while tying it to a fan and holding a sword to her throat and stomach. In the clips, she purportedly warned Abhishek that she would kill herself if he attempted to end the relationship. Abhishek can be heard urging her not to harm herself.
Speaking to reporters, Abhishek’s father, Ramhit Prajapat, alleged that the young woman had been threatening his son for months and had used emotional blackmail to prevent him from distancing himself. He further claimed that members of her family had assaulted Abhishek earlier and lodged a false complaint, leading to his temporary detention at the Bhagirathpura police outpost. “Her relatives threatened him repeatedly. Even the police personnel told him to stay away,” he said.
The family maintains that Abhishek appeared cheerful shortly before the incident and believe mounting pressure pushed him into a corner. Abhishek, who ran a sound system business, lived with his father, brother, and two sisters.
Police have seized his mobile phone and are examining the video calls and messages exchanged between the two. Investigators said statements from both families will be recorded, and appropriate action will follow based on digital evidence and forensic findings.
Authorities have appealed to the public to refrain from speculation as the inquiry continues.
