Jabalpur Police Bust Instagram Honey-Trap Gang; Two Constables Under Scrutiny for Alleged Collusion

Jabalpur police have uncovered a honey-trap extortion racket operated by a woman who allegedly lured young men through Instagram before threatening them with fabricated complaints and leaked videos. Three accused , the woman and her two male accomplices  were arrested after two victims lodged formal complaints at the Lordganj police station.

The mastermind, a resident of Kareli in Narsinghpur district, had been living in a rented house in Shatabdipura for the past three months. Investigators said the gang arranged meetings with victims and then extorted money by intimidating them with staged videos and accusations. The involvement of two police constables has also surfaced, prompting serious questions about possible collusion.

According to police, a 19-year-old from Belkheda befriended the woman on Instagram, where she introduced herself as Ragini Sharma. After several days of conversation, she called him to Jabalpur, claiming she was about to return to Narsinghpur. On Saturday, the youth and his cousin met her in Vijay Nagar, after which she took them to a house in Shatabdipura.

Once the cousin stepped out to bring food and beverages, two accomplicesidentified as Sahil and Vivek entered the room, assaulted the youth, and recorded a video. They then demanded ₹1 lakh, threatening to circulate the video and file a false rape case.

When the youth’s relatives arrived and refused to pay, the accused called two constables from the Yadav Colony police outpost. The officers reached the location within minutes, and the complainants allege they too threatened to jail them based on the woman’s claims. The quick arrival raised suspicions of coordination, especially since the constables neither informed senior officers nor brought a female police official, violating protocol.

CSP Ritesh Kumar Shiv’s preliminary probe found procedural lapses, after which SP Sampat Upadhyay attached constables Sachin Jain and Siddharth to the police line. Investigators are now verifying how many victims the gang may have targeted and whether the constables had direct involvement. Further action will follow once the inquiry concludes.
