The draft roll of Madhya Pradesh’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has revealed extensive changes in the state’s voter list, with Jabalpur emerging as the district with the highest number of deceased voters and Bhopal and Indore leading in voter deletions and shifts. The draft was released by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Wednesday.
According to official data, Jabalpur tops the state with 51,357 voters recorded as deceased. Indore follows with 43,741, Sagar with 36,467, Bhopal with 33,791, and Dhar with 27,943. Statewide, the number of voters categorised as deceased stands at 8.46 lakh.
The SIR exercise has resulted in the exclusion of 42.74 lakh names from the draft roll. Of these, 8.65 lakh voters could not be contacted due to discrepancies with the 2003 voter list. The will issue notices to all such voters, asking them to submit any of the 11 prescribed documents to the Booth Level Officer (BLO) for verification and possible restoration of their names.
Bhopal recorded the highest number of voter shifts, with 2.86 lakh electors found to have moved residences, followed by Indore (1.97 lakh), Gwalior (1.48 lakh), Jabalpur (1.15 lakh), and Sagar (80,901). The total number of shifted voters across the state is 22.78 lakh. Indore also leads in absent voters, with over 1.75 lakh cases reported.
In a notable trend, Burhanpur recorded the highest number of multiple voter entries at 23,594, surpassing larger districts such as Indore and Bhopal.
Chief Electoral Officer Sanjeev Jha said the claim and objection process will remain open from December 23, 2025, to January 22, 2026, allowing eligible voters to seek corrections. Joint CEO RPS Jadoun clarified that names deleted due to duplication, migration, or non-verification can still be re-added upon submission of valid documents.
The final voter list will be published after the completion of the claims and objections process.
