Shivpuri police have solved a high-value jewellery theft case involving assets worth nearly ₹2 crore in Kolaras town, arresting two accused and recovering 46 kilograms of stolen silver that had been buried underground to evade detection. Two other suspects named in the case remain absconding, and search operations are underway to trace them.
The theft took place on the intervening night of July 26 and 27, when unidentified burglars broke open the shutter of a jewellery shop owned by Girish Kumar Jain in Sadar Bazar, Kolaras. Gold and silver ornaments were stolen, prompting police to register a case under Sections 331(4) and 305(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launch a detailed investigation.
Superintendent of Police Aman Singh Rathore said multiple special teams were constituted under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Mule and SDOP Kolaras Sanjay Mishra to crack the case. Investigators scanned footage from more than 200 CCTV cameras across Kolaras and adjoining areas. Over 100 suspects were questioned in Shivpuri, Gwalior, Morena and Bhind districts, while the cyber cell provided technical support to track leads.
The breakthrough came on January 20, 2026, when police received a tip-off that one of the accused, Aman Rawat, was planning to sell stolen silver in Shivpuri. Acting on the information, police laid a trap and apprehended Rawat, recovering silver ornaments from his possession.
During interrogation, Aman Rawat, 22, a resident of Khonkar Road, Sesai Sadak, confessed to committing the theft along with his uncle Sanjay Rawat, Janki Rawat, and his uncle’s associate Abhishek Rawat. Based on his disclosure, police arrested Abhishek Rawat, 19, a resident of Kulwara village. Sanjay Rawat and Janki Rawat are currently absconding.
Police said the accused had buried the stolen silver in pits dug at different locations to avoid recovery and were waiting for market prices to rise. When Aman Rawat attempted to sell a portion of the silver to meet immediate financial needs, he was caught.
Following the disclosures, police recovered silver ornaments buried near Thakur Baba’s platform in Khonkar, as well as additional silver hidden in Kulwara village. In total, 46 kilograms of silver and gold ornaments, valued at approximately ₹1.53 crore, have been recovered so far.
Raids are continuing to locate the remaining accused and recover the rest of the stolen property. Police said further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
