KBC in Legal Soup: Court Seeks Police Report Over Amitabh Bachchan’s “Village” Remark About Nagda

Amitabh Bachchan faces legal trouble after calling Nagda a "small village" on KBC. A court in Ujjain has ordered a police report. Read the latest updates here.

The legendary Amitabh Bachchan and the makers of the iconic quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) have found themselves in the middle of a legal storm. A court in Nagda, Ujjain district, has officially taken cognizance of a complaint regarding misleading information broadcast on national television, marking a significant development in the Amitabh Bachchan KBC case.

The controversy stems from an episode aired on December 23, 2025, where the host referred to Nagda as a small, water-starved village. The remark did not sit well with the residents of the industrial hub, leading to allegations that the show tarnished the city's reputation.

Court Orders Investigation into Misinformation

The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Nagda has formally accepted the petition filed by local resident and lawyer Laxman Sundra. Moving the case forward, the court directed the matter to be entered into the Case Information System (CIS) and has sought a detailed report from the local police station.

The legal action isn't limited to the megastar alone. The complaint also names Gaurav Banerjee, CEO of Sony Pictures Network India, as a party to the case. The court is expected to review the police findings and the CIS registration in the next hearing, scheduled for April 9, 2026.

Why Nagda Residents Are Outraged

The crux of the Nagda village controversy lies in the stark difference between the show’s portrayal and the town's actual status. Local lawyers, including Deepmala Avana and Rajesh Mandwaria, argue that calling Nagda a "small village" is factually incorrect and damaging.

Key Facts About Nagda:

  • Population: Over 150,000 residents.

  • Status: A major industrial town and a critical railway junction in the Malwa region.

  • Administrative Future: Former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had previously announced plans to elevate Nagda to a full-fledged district.

"Portraying a developed industrial center as a struggling village on a platform with millions of viewers is not just a 'research gaffe'; it is a blow to our local identity," stated lawyer Jaina Shree Mal during the proceedings.

A Sensitive Connection to Madhya Pradesh

This legal battle is particularly poignant given Amitabh Bachchan’s deep roots in Madhya Pradesh. His wife, veteran actress and politician Jaya Bachchan, hails from Bhopal, where her parents resided in the Shyamla Hills area. The Bachchan family has long enjoyed a warm relationship with the state, making this specific "misinformation" claim a trending topic in Madhya Pradesh news.

Expert Perspective: The High Cost of "Reality" Research

Media analysts suggest that this case highlights a growing sensitivity toward how regional identities are depicted in mainstream media. While KBC has historically been praised for its educational value, this incident serves as a reminder that even "Living Legends" and massive production houses are not immune to the legal consequences of factual errors.

For the residents of Nagda, this isn't just about a TV show; it's about a town of 1.5 lakh people demanding the recognition they deserve as a rising industrial force in India.
