Liquor Flows Openly Inside MY Hospital Even as Food Ban Tightens Security, Video Sparks Outrage

Two men drinking alcohol inside the premises of MY Hospital has cast serious doubts on the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College administration’s recent claims of tightening security across its associated hospitals. The footage surfaced at a time when authorities are strictly enforcing a ban on food entry for patients’ families, citing rat-control measures.
The incident occurred around 7.30 pm on Saturday behind MY Hospital, in a parking area reserved for doctors. The video shows the men standing beside a Rajasthan-registered car, consuming liquor in full public view. Neither security guards nor medical staff passing through the area intervened, even as patients and attendants walked by expressing unease. Sources say the men are believed to be friends of a doctor posted at the hospital.
The episode has highlighted a stark contrast in enforcement. Over the past week, hospital authorities have sealed multiple gates, deployed guards with metal detectors, and restricted attendants from carrying food to patient wards. Families now wait outside on the roadside to receive meals distributed by volunteer groups. Yet, despite these measures, basic monitoring within the campus appears lax.
Dean Dr. Arvind Ghanghoria has repeatedly maintained that the college and its hostels are strictly liquor-free zones. However, empty bottles frequently found on the premises and complaints from students suggest that violations are not uncommon. The latest video has renewed public scrutiny of the administration’s assurances.
The incident also comes on the heels of a similar controversy at AIIMS Bhopal last month, where four doctors were caught drinking near the emergency gate, leading to police intervention.
MY Hospital Superintendent Dr. Ashok Yadav said the administration has taken note of the video. “If such an incident has occurred, it will be investigated. If any staff member is involved, action will be taken,” he said.
