Madhya Pradesh Hit by Unseasonal Rain: 1,200 Paddy Trolleys Soaked in Bhind, 4-Day IMD Alert Issued

Despite the official withdrawal of monsoon on October 13, Madhya Pradesh continues to battle relentless unseasonal rainfall, causing widespread disruption. Heavy showers lashed Gwalior-Ratlam, while Bhopal and Indore remained shrouded in dense clouds. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a four-day weather alert for rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across the state.
In the last 24 hours, Ratlam recorded over 3 inches of rain, Gwalior nearly 2.75 inches, and Shivpuri more than 1.5 inches. Light to moderate showers also drenched Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Datia, Tikamgarh, and several other districts. A depression over the Arabian Sea and a cyclonic circulation are fueling this unusual post-monsoon activity.
Farmers’ Fury in Bhind: 1,200 Paddy Trolleys Damaged
In Bhind’s Gohad Mandi, over 1,200 trolleys of paddy were soaked due to overnight rain, halting procurement. Out-of-state buyers rejected the wet grain, leaving farmers furious. “Despite IMD warnings, no tarpaulin or shelter was arranged,” a farmer told reporters. Agitators demanded immediate compensation and proper crop assessment.
Heavy Rain Alert for 18 Districts
IMD’s yellow alert covers thunderstorms and lightning in all districts, including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Ujjain. October 29–30 will see intense rainfall in northern and eastern MP. Senior meteorologist Dr. Divya E. Surendran warned of a sharp temperature drop after November 6, with a severe winter — potentially the coldest since 2010 — expected.
Monsoon Ends Strong: 15% Above Normal Rainfall
This year’s monsoon delivered 115% of normal rainfall, with Guna topping at 65.7 inches and Sheopur recording 216.3% excess. However, unseasonal October rains now threaten harvested crops.
Historical October extremes: Bhopal hit 38°C (2012), Indore froze at 6.2°C (1999), and Gwalior touched 40.1°C (1994).
