Madhya Pradesh Weather Update: Rain Batters 42 Districts

Madhya Pradesh weather update shows active system causing rain, hail and wind damage; eastern districts remain on alert for more showers.

A strong weather system has triggered widespread rainfall across Madhya Pradesh, affecting more than 42 districts over the past 72 hours. The India Meteorological Department said the ongoing Madhya Pradesh weather update indicates continued instability, with rain, hailstorms and gusty winds disrupting normal life.

System Behind Changes

According to officials, the current conditions stem from a cyclonic circulation combined with three active troughs. Senior scientist Dr. Divya E. Surendran said the system has been influencing the state’s weather since March 18, leading to sudden fluctuations in temperature and precipitation patterns.

Rain, Hail Impact

In the last 24 hours, rainfall was recorded in over 100 towns across districts such as Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Ujjain.

Heavy rainfall was reported in parts of Dhar and Betul districts, while hailstorms struck areas like Alirajpur, Jhabua, Khandwa and Chhindwara. Wind speeds reaching up to 74 km/h were also recorded, causing damage to standing crops including wheat, banana, papaya and orange.

Eastern District Alert

The weather department has issued a rain alert for at least 14 eastern districts, including Rewa and Singrauli. Officials indicated that the system is gradually shifting eastward and is likely to bring further showers in these regions on Saturday.

Temperature Drops Sharp

Unseasonal rainfall and persistent cloud cover have led to a sharp drop in temperatures across the state. In Gwalior, the daytime temperature fell to 23.9°C, a decline of over 10 degrees within a day.

Cities such as Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur recorded temperature drops of 5°C or more. Khajuraho reported one of the steepest declines, with temperatures falling by nearly 11 degrees, reflecting the intensity of the current weather disturbance.

Pattern This Season

This is not an isolated event. February and March have witnessed repeated spells of rain and hailstorms across Madhya Pradesh. The current Madhya Pradesh weather update highlights an unusual seasonal pattern, where early summer conditions have been interrupted by frequent western disturbances and moisture-laden systems.

Major cities have shown mixed trends. While Bhopal and Indore have alternated between rising heat and rainfall, Gwalior has experienced fluctuating conditions, including cold spells. Jabalpur continues to record relatively cooler nights, while Ujjain has seen hot days interspersed with rain.

Impact On Agriculture

The erratic weather has raised concerns among farmers, particularly due to damage to rabi crops nearing harvest. Hailstorms and strong winds have flattened crops in several districts, prompting local authorities to assess losses.

Officials said monitoring is underway, and reports from affected areas are being compiled to evaluate the extent of damage.

What Lies Ahead

The current system is expected to remain active until March 21. The IMD has indicated that another western disturbance may develop from March 22, though its impact is likely to be weaker.

A fresh weather system is also expected around March 26, which could once again bring rainfall to parts of the state. As per the latest Madhya Pradesh weather update, authorities have advised residents and farmers to remain alert amid continued fluctuations.
