Maheshwar wedding accident leaves 25 injured after pickup runs over baraatis. Groom and family hurt, investigation underway into driver negligence.
Wedding celebrations in a village under Maheshwar police station limits turned into a scene of panic and distress on Friday when a speeding pickup vehicle ran over a group of dancing baraatis, leaving around 25 people injured, including the groom.
The incident occurred in Gurjar Mohana village when a wedding procession was moving from Sajnipura to Badipura. Eyewitnesses described the atmosphere as festive just moments before chaos unfolded.
How the Accident Happened
According to eyewitness Rajesh Rathore, the accident took place around 11 am. A pickup vehicle that was following the wedding procession suddenly went out of control. The driver reportedly lost balance when his foot unintentionally pressed the accelerator.
The vehicle then surged forward uncontrollably and plowed into the group of people dancing in front of it. Several baraatis were dragged for nearly 100 meters before the vehicle finally crashed into a neem tree and overturned.
Extent of Injuries and Damage
The impact of the accident left nearly 20 to 25 people injured, many of whom suffered fractures in their hands and legs. The collision also damaged multiple motorcycles parked nearby.
The groom, Rakesh Dabar, sustained injuries, but the condition of his sister is reported to be critical. She was initially treated at the Mandleshwar Community Health Center and later referred to the district hospital in Khargone for advanced treatment.
Emergency Response and Medical Care
Police station in-charge Jagdish Goyal reached the spot promptly and coordinated rescue efforts. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals in Maheshwar and Mandleshwar, where they are currently undergoing treatment. The sudden shift from celebration to chaos left families in shock, with cries and panic spreading across the area immediately after the incident.
Visit by Local Leaders
Upon receiving information about the accident, local MLA Rajkumar Mev and Mandal President Vikram Patel visited the Community Health Center in Maheshwar. They interacted with the injured and reviewed the situation.
Officials including SDM Purva Mandloi, Tehsildar Kailash Sastya, and BMO Atul Gaur were instructed to ensure proper medical care and immediate referral of critically injured patients to Khargone.

Authorities have registered a case against the pickup driver and initiated an investigation. Police are examining whether the accident was purely due to driver negligence or if any mechanical failure contributed to the loss of control.
