Malwa Utsav in Indore Marks Silver Jubilee, CM Mohan Yadav Attends
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the Malwa Utsav in Indore has become a platform for cultural unity, social bonding and support for local livelihoods.
Indore witnessed a vibrant display of folk culture and regional traditions on Saturday as the silver jubilee edition of the Malwa Utsav drew large crowds and artists from several states. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav attended the event organised by the Lok Sanskriti Manch and described fairs and festivals as platforms that strengthen emotional ties and cultural unity.
The cultural programme, held in Indore, featured folk performances, handicraft stalls and regional cuisine, with artists from different parts of the country participating in the celebrations.
Silver Jubilee Celebration
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the Malwa Utsav was not merely a fair but a meeting ground for people, traditions and communities. He noted that the event has completed 25 years and credited its continued success to the efforts of organisers and public participation.
According to officials associated with the event, this year’s programme included performances representing multiple regional traditions, including bhangra, garba and other folk dance forms. The performances continued late into the evening, attracting families and visitors from across the city.
Dr. Yadav said the participation of artists from different states reflected the country’s cultural diversity and helped strengthen a sense of unity through art and tradition.
Aid for Organisers
During the programme, the Chief Minister announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the organising body, Lok Sanskriti Manch, in recognition of the silver jubilee year celebrations.
He said such cultural events contribute not only to preserving folk traditions but also support local economic activity. Small artists, handicraft sellers, food vendors, swing operators and temporary stall owners benefit directly from festivals of this scale, he added.
Officials present at the venue said a large number of stalls displaying handicrafts and local products from different regions had been set up as part of the event.
Folk Performances Draw Crowd
The event venue remained packed during the cultural presentations, with traditional dance troupes welcoming the Chief Minister upon arrival.
Garba performances from Gujarat, bhangra presentations from Punjab and regional folk dances from Madhya Pradesh and other states were among the main attractions. Visitors also gathered around stalls offering Malwa cuisine and regional delicacies.
Organisers said the festival has gradually evolved into one of the prominent annual cultural gatherings in the region, drawing participation from artists, artisans and performers from across India.
Mango Fair Visit
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also attended the “Mango Jatra” organised by the Marathi community in Indore. Ratnagiri’s popular Hapus mangoes remained a key attraction at the event.
Dr. Yadav described both programmes as examples of social harmony and cultural coordination. Sources familiar with the event said several community organisations participated in the celebrations over the weekend.
Focus on Culture
The Chief Minister, while speaking at the Malwa Utsav, remarked that the Malwa region is known equally for its prosperity and festive spirit. He said cultural festivals help preserve traditions at a time when rapid urbanisation is changing social habits and lifestyles.
Local residents attending the event said such gatherings provide families and younger audiences an opportunity to connect with traditional art forms that are otherwise rarely seen outside organised festivals.
With performances and exhibitions continuing through the festival schedule, organisers expect footfall to remain high over the coming days. The Malwa Utsav in Indore has also gained attention on social media, with videos of folk performances being widely shared by visitors.
