Man Commits Suicide After Son Objects to His Drinking in Kolar; Police Investigate

A 50-year-old man allegedly died by suicide late Tuesday night in Bhopal’s Kolar area after an argument with his son over his daily alcohol consumption, police said. The deceased has been identified as Shiv Ghadge, a resident of Kanhakunj, who often returned home intoxicated.
According to police, Shiv’s son, frustrated with his father’s repeated drinking, advised him to stop. Shiv reportedly became angry and hurled abuses at his son, who left the house in frustration. When he returned later that night, he found his father hanging.
Incident Details
Kolar police station in-charge Sanjay Soni said the incident occurred around 11:30 pm. Shiv was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by his son after being cut down, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation.
Background
Investigating Officer Jogendra Negi stated that Shiv worked at a furniture shop and also served as a night watchman in the colony. He lived with his son and four daughters; three daughters were married, and his wife was away in Khandwa with the youngest daughter at the time of the incident.
Neighbours and relatives told police that Shiv had a long-standing alcohol addiction and often returned home drunk. Despite repeated attempts by his son to counsel him, Tuesday night’s confrontation escalated into tragedy. No suicide note was recovered, and authorities are recording statements to determine if prolonged alcohol abuse or other factors contributed to his death.
