Police identified the accused as Sanjay Chauhan, a labourer, and the victim as his wife Suman Chauhan. During the attack, the couple’s 14-year-old daughter sustained knife injuries while attempting to protect her mother. She is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

According to Additional Police Commissioner Amit Singh, the incident took place near a slum settlement in Scheme No. 78. An argument between the couple escalated early in the morning, after which Chauhan allegedly attacked his wife with a knife, killing her on the spot. When their daughter intervened, she was also assaulted.

“After the incident, the accused reached Lasudiya police station on his own and told officers that he had murdered his wife,” Singh said. A police team was immediately sent to the location, and the woman’s body was shifted to MY Hospital for postmortem examination.

Police officials said the couple had a long history of domestic discord. Chauhan had previously been booked in preventive action under Section 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code following complaints of frequent quarrels and was briefly jailed. Despite this, tensions between the couple persisted.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Amarendra Singh said preliminary inquiries revealed that both Chauhan and Suman were in their second marriage. Chauhan’s first wife had died earlier, while Suman had also been previously married. Persistent mistrust and repeated disputes are believed to have contributed to the violence.

The accused has been arrested and is being interrogated. Police said further investigation is underway to determine the sequence of events and to examine whether earlier complaints were adequately addressed.
