Man Shot Dead in Broad Daylight in Sihora; Attack Caught on Video, Police Probe Rivalry Angle

A 45-year-old man was shot dead in broad daylight in Sihora, Jabalpur, on Thursday afternoon after two motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted him and fired three bullets at point-blank range. The killing, which took place around 1 p.m. near Baribahu Stadium in the Khitoula police station limits, was captured on video and has since circulated widely.

The victim, identified as Dharmendra Singh Thakur, also known as Chintu, was riding his motorcycle when the attackers chased him down. According to eyewitness accounts, Dharmendra attempted to flee but was overpowered. One assailant threw him to the ground while the other fired three shots straight to his head, killing him instantly. The attackers fled on the same motorcycle.

Police reached the spot within minutes of receiving the alert. Dharmendra was taken to the Sihora Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Investigators have begun examining CCTV footage from the vicinity and are analysing Dharmendra’s mobile records to trace possible leads.

A preliminary inquiry suggests Dharmendra had a history of disputes. His younger brother, Rahul Thakur, alleged that long-standing enmity with Assu Vishwakarma, a resident of Sihora with multiple criminal cases, may have led to the attack. Rahul said Assu had fired at Dharmendra several years ago and was arrested but later released. He claimed Assu had continued issuing threats, raising concerns about renewed hostility.

Officers said they are verifying whether the rivalry is linked to Thursday’s killing. Dharmendra had earlier contested elections for the Sihora municipal council, which police say could also provide investigative angles.

Senior officials have deployed teams to identify the assailants and are checking entry and exit routes from the area. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and a case of murder has been registered. Police said arrests are expected soon as technical evidence and eyewitness accounts are being consolidated.
