Minister's Convoy Vehicle Hits E-Rickshaw in Chhatarpur; 70-Year-Old Man Loses Both Legs

A vehicle in Minister Dilip Ahirwar's convoy collided with an e-rickshaw in Chhatarpur, leaving a 70-year-old man with double leg amputation. Six others were injured. Details on the accident and police investigation inside.

A tragic accident involving a follow-up vehicle from the convoy of Minister of State Dilip Ahirwar left seven people injured on Thursday evening, with a 70-year-old man suffering the severe loss of both his legs.

The collision occurred near Basantpur Tiraha, within the jurisdiction of the Lavkush Nagar police station. The minister was returning to Lavkush Nagar after attending a Dussehra Milan ceremony in Barha village at the time of the incident.

The e-rickshaw, carrying seven people including the driver, was struck by the convoy vehicle, causing it to overturn. The victims were returning from Lavkush Nagar after shopping for Diwali supplies.

The most critically injured was Sahab Singh (70), a resident of Budoura village. He was rushed to Lavkush Nagar Hospital for initial treatment before being referred to the district hospital and subsequently transferred to a specialized hospital in Gwalior.

Dr. Neeraj Soni from Chhatarpur District Hospital confirmed the grievous nature of Singh's injuries. "Due to the severe damage, both of the elderly man’s legs had to be amputated," Dr. Soni stated. Singh has since undergone surgery in Gwalior.

The six other injured individuals, including the e-rickshaw driver, received treatment for their injuries and were later discharged.

Authorities have launched a search for the specific convoy vehicle involved in the accident. Lavkush Nagar SDOP Naveen Dubey confirmed that an investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, the minister has assured the victim's family that Sahab Singh's medical treatment will be covered under the Ayushman Yojana health scheme. The police facilitated the initial hospital admission, according to the family.
