Mohan Yadav Govt to Renovate Vallabh Bhavan: ₹86 Cr Modernisation Project Begins This Month

The Madhya Pradesh government is set to begin a major renovation of the iconic Vallabh Bhavan (Old GAD Building) in Bhopal by the end of July 2025. The ₹86.08 crore project aims to upgrade infrastructure while preserving the building’s original structure and historical essence.

Renovation Underway by Month-End

Newly appointed Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the General Administration Department (GAD), Sanjay Kumar Shukla, chaired a meeting immediately after taking charge, instructing officials to fast-track the renovation process.

Work will start with the construction of a temporary dumping yard that will serve as a warehouse for old furniture and materials.

₹86.08 Cr Budget Allocation

The renovation will be carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD) with:

·         ₹49.76 crore earmarked for civil works

·         ₹36.32 crore for electrical upgrades

A team from a Gujarat-based contracting firm is expected to arrive by July 15. The renovation work on each floor is expected to take three to four months, with the full project spanning two years.

Departments to Be Temporarily Shifted

Nineteen departments and office units currently housed in Vallabh Bhavan-1 will be gradually relocated to ensure uninterrupted administrative functioning. Once complete, the building will offer office space for 10 ministers and their respective staff.

Key Modern Features

·         Modern cabins similar to those in Vallabh Bhavan-2 and -3

·         Centralized AC systems using Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) technology

·         LED lighting and smart energy systems

·         Modular toilets for each department

·         Dedicated record room in the basement

·         Facilities like a bank, canteen, dispensary, nursery, post office, and library

·         Enhanced green spaces and landscaping

Fire Safety Upgrades

Fire preparedness will be significantly enhanced with the installation of 10 pumps:

·         2 electric pumps

·         6 jockey pumps to boost pressure

·         2 diesel pumps as backup during power cuts

Emphasis on Safety and Coordination

ACS Shukla directed all departments to prioritise fire safety and electrical systems in the renovation plan. A control room has also been set up to monitor progress and coordinate efforts among various government units.

This renovation, while retaining the classic charm of Vallabh Bhavan on Arera Hills, aims to make the building a model of sustainable and smart governance infrastructure.
