Sagar incident shocks Madhya Pradesh as mother kills four daughters; three bodies recovered from a well, search continues for infant.
Shocking Incident Reported
A tragic incident in Sagar has left the region in shock after a 28-year-old woman allegedly killed her four daughters before dying by suicide. The case, reported from Nanhi Devri Khamariya village under Kesli police station limits, surfaced on Thursday afternoon.
According to initial information, the woman, identified as Savita Bai, is suspected to have thrown her daughters into a nearby well and later hanged herself inside her house.
Bodies Found in Well
Police officials confirmed that the bodies of three girls—Anshika (7), Raksha (5), and Diksha (3)—were recovered from a well close to the residence. A search operation is underway to locate the fourth child, five-month-old Manisha, who remains missing.
Authorities said local teams, along with villagers, are assisting in the ongoing search efforts.
Family Raises Alarm
Family members reported that Savita’s husband, Chandrabhan Lodhi, had gone out for daily wage labour work at the time of the incident. His mother and sister were present in the house but were asleep during the early hours.
Suspicion arose when the house door remained locked for an unusually long time in the morning. Neighbours and relatives intervened and eventually forced entry into the house.
Woman Found Hanging
Upon entering the house, the family found Savita Bai hanging. The children were missing, prompting immediate concern and a search in the surrounding area.
Police were alerted soon after, and a team rushed to the spot to begin investigation and recovery operations.
Police Begin Investigation
According to officials, inquest proceedings have been initiated, and the bodies recovered have been sent for post-mortem examination. “The exact cause and sequence of events will be established only after detailed investigation and medical reports,” a police officer said.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the motive behind the incident, stating that all possible angles are being examined.
Possible Reasons Unclear
Sources indicated that no suicide note has been recovered so far. Investigators are speaking to family members and neighbours to understand the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Preliminary inputs suggest no immediate signs of external involvement, but officials said it is too early to rule out any possibility.
Community in Shock
The incident has triggered widespread shock and grief in the village, with residents struggling to come to terms with the loss. Cases involving harm to children continue to raise concerns about mental health awareness and support systems in rural areas.
Experts note that such incidents highlight the need for stronger community-level intervention and timely access to counselling services.
What Happens Next
Police said the search for the missing infant will continue until all possibilities are exhausted. A detailed report will be prepared after post-mortem findings and statements from family members are recorded.
