MPPSC State Service Mains 2025 Likely After 2026 Prelims as Court Stay Continues

The Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) State Service Main Examination 2025 is now expected to be conducted only after the 2026 preliminary examination, following a continuing stay by the High Court. With the Commission already scheduling the 2026 State Service Preliminary Examination for April 26, holding the 2025 mains before that date has become practically unfeasible.
According to officials, the matter is slated for hearing on February 10. The Commission is expected to place its position before the court and seek permission to proceed with the long-pending mains examination. However, even if approval is granted, administrative constraints make it unlikely that the exam can be organised before late April or May 2026.
The State Service Main Examination 2025 was originally scheduled for June 9, 2025. The examination has remained stalled since the High Court imposed a stay, and no revised dates have been announced so far. MPPSC officials indicated that the Commission is prepared to move forward once legal clarity is achieved, but the examination calendar is already heavily burdened.
Experts point to three key factors making an early conduct of the mains exam difficult. In March, the State Eligibility Test (SET) will be held, with approximately 1.46 lakh candidates expected to participate. This will be followed by the State Service Preliminary Examination 2026 on April 26, for which nearly two lakh candidates are likely to appear. In addition, the application process for the mains examination, including form submission, centre allocation and logistical arrangements, typically requires more than two months.
The delay has intensified frustration among aspirants, many of whom have been waiting for years amid repeated litigation. Over the past seven years, several State Service examinations have been affected by court cases, leading to prolonged recruitment cycles. Earlier, final selection lists were released within a year. Now, the process often stretches to one-and-a-half to two years.
Past trends underline the scale of the problem. The State Service 2020 selection list was released in February 2023 after a two-year delay, covering 260 posts. The 2021 selection list came out in June 2024 after around one-and-a-half years, with 283 posts. For State Service 2022, the final list was issued in February 2025, more than two years after the examination, for 457 posts.
With thousands of candidates awaiting clarity, the February 10 hearing is expected to be crucial in determining the immediate future of the MPPSC State Service Mains 2025 and the overall examination timeline.
