The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has intensified enforcement against industrial units violating environmental and sanitation norms, imposing penalties worth ₹1.80 lakh on several firms found dumping solid waste and untreated wastewater into public drains. The action was taken during inspection drives conducted in key industrial areas over the weekend.
The crackdown was carried out on Sunday in the Sanwer Road and Polo Ground industrial areas, falling under Zone No. 17 and Zone No. 3 respectively. Officials said the inspections were part of a broader campaign to prevent pollution, protect drainage infrastructure and maintain urban cleanliness, especially ahead of the summer season when blocked drains pose health risks.
In the Sanwer Road industrial area under Zone No. 17, officials found multiple units discharging garbage, industrial waste and wastewater directly into open drains. Zonal Officer Narendra Kureel said violations were detected during routine inspections. Following this, the Corporation imposed fines of ₹50,000 on Lalit Namkeen, ₹35,000 on Megha Polymer, ₹30,000 on Geetika Plastic and ₹25,000 on Usha Organic. The total penalty issued in this zone amounted to ₹1.40 lakh.
The inspection was conducted in the presence of Zonal Officer Kureel, City Sanitation Inspector (CSI) Ashish Kapse, Deputy Engineer Siddhant Mehta and other departmental staff. Officials said photographic evidence was collected and challans were issued on the spot to ensure immediate accountability.
Simultaneously, enforcement action was undertaken in the Polo Ground industrial area under Zone No. 3, following instructions from the Municipal Commissioner. Zonal Officer Raj Thakur said inspections were carried out in Ward 57, where two units were found violating wastewater management norms. Siyano Pharma Company was fined ₹30,000 for failing to operate its Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) effectively, while Kohinoor Elastic was penalised ₹10,000 for directly releasing wastewater into the sewer line. The total fine in this zone stood at ₹40,000.
The inspection in Zone No. 3 was conducted in the presence of Zonal Officer Raj Thakur, CSI Rajendra Bega and officials from the drainage department. Municipal authorities have directed all industrial units in the affected areas to rectify deficiencies in their waste and wastewater management systems within the next two days.
IMC officials warned that stricter action, including higher penalties and possible sealing of units, will follow if violations continue. The Corporation said regular inspections will be sustained to deter illegal dumping and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
