Nana Patwari's Confession: 'I Used to Take Drugs Until Three Years Ago, But I've Completely Quit'; Questions Police Action
INDORE, MP
Nana Patwari, brother of Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari, appeared before the media for the first time after being questioned by the police in the alleged drugs case.
During the interaction, he admitted that he had consumed drugs until about three years ago but claimed that he has completely given up both drugs and alcohol since then. He also questioned the police action, alleging that the case was politically motivated.
Nana Patwari said that his only mistake was being Jitu Patwari's brother. According to him, he was on his way to get his vehicle serviced when the police detained him near the gate of Sun City Colony. He alleged that the police kept him moving around the city throughout the day without informing him why he had been taken into custody. He claimed that at the police station, officials only asked for his name and told him he would be informed about the reason later.
He further stated that he has no connection with the people arrested in the case. According to Nana Patwari, Sanjay Kaushal and Irfan were party workers who had worked during election campaigns. He said his vehicle used to be washed at Sanjay Kaushal's place, where Golu was employed. Referring to the Scorpio SUV under investigation, he said it belongs to Sanjay Kaushal and that he has no connection with any items allegedly recovered from it. He categorically denied all allegations made by the police.
Speaking to the media, Nana Patwari admitted that he had consumed drugs until three years ago. However, he said that since then he has completely given up not only drugs but also alcohol. He maintained that he no longer consumes any intoxicating substances.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari also reacted to the developments and accused the state government of targeting his family. He said he had anticipated such actions and claimed that if the government intended to harass his family, they were prepared to face it. He added that they were even ready to go to jail if necessary but would not be intimidated.
Jitu Patwari's legal counsel also responded to reports regarding criminal cases against Nana Patwari. The lawyer stated that out of the nine cases registered against him, five were related to farmers' protests, while two were connected to demonstrations outside police stations during elections, in which Nana Patwari had no direct involvement. One case pertained to a land dispute, in which he has already been granted bail. The lawyer further said that Nana Patwari has already been acquitted in two of the nine cases.
The police investigation into the alleged drugs case is still underway. Police officials have maintained that their action is based on available evidence. On the other hand, Nana Patwari and Jitu Patwari have alleged that the entire case is an act of political vendetta aimed at targeting their family.
