Nine-Year-Old Boy Dies After Electrocution While Retrieving Kite in Indore
Digital Desk
A nine-year-old boy died from severe burns after coming into contact with a high-tension power line while trying to retrieve a stuck kite from an electric pole in Nagin Nagar on Sunday evening.
Govind Gaur, the victim, climbed the pole in the area under Chandan Nagar police station limits. Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion and crackling sounds as he touched the live wire, causing immediate electrocution.
Locals rushed to the scene and, after significant effort, brought the boy down. He was rushed to MY Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had suffered about 70 percent burns. Despite treatment, Govind was declared dead.
The boy's father, Manish, is a mechanic, and his mother, Preeti Patel, is a homemaker. The family, originally from Vidisha, lives in a rented home in Indore.
A video circulating online shows the child stuck on the line before rescuers freed him, intensifying concerns about the dangers of overhead power lines in residential areas.
This marks the second such tragedy in Indore in two weeks. Last week, a 12-year-old boy died after contacting a high-tension line on Dhar Road while attempting a similar retrieval. Police registered an accidental death case in that incident.
Authorities have repeatedly warned against climbing poles or using metal rods near electrical infrastructure, especially during kite-flying season when strings often tangle in wires.
Residents in Nagin Nagar expressed outrage over poorly insulated lines and called for better safety measures, including underground cabling in densely populated neighborhoods.
Police have launched an investigation into Sunday's incident, though no foul play is suspected.
