Nurse Accuses Senior Doctors of Harassment at Gwalior Hospital

A case of alleged sexual harassment, caste abuse, and mental torture has surfaced from a super speciality hospital in Gwalior, leading to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against two senior doctors. The hospital staffer, a 27-year-old nursing officer, has accused the Head of the Nephrology Department and the Hospital Superintendent of misconduct.

Details of the Allegations

The complainant stated the incident occurred when she visited the chamber of Dr. Shivam Yadav, HOD of Nephrology, to get a duty application acknowledged. She alleged that Dr. Yadav told her she would have to "compromise" for job security. When she refused, he reportedly instructed her to "keep the medical superintendent happy," implying she should obey Dr. Girja Shankar Gupta.

The nurse further claimed that Dr. Yadav grabbed her hand with ill intent as she tried to leave. After freeing herself, she alleged he used caste-based slurs and threatened her, saying she could complain anywhere as no one could harm them.

Official Response and Investigation

The nurse reported the incident to her parents, and a formal complaint was lodged at the Kampoo police station. Station House Officer (SHO) Amar Singh Sikarwar confirmed the registration of the FIR.

Both Dr. Shivam Yadav and Dr. Girja Shankar Gupta have been booked under  Sections 74, 75, and 351 of the BNS, along with the SC/ST Act . Police have initiated an investigation, which is currently underway. The accused doctors have denied the allegations, with Dr. Yadav calling them "false and motivated," and Dr. Gupta stating he has no connection to the matter.

Workplace Violence in Healthcare

This incident highlights the pervasive issue of workplace violence in healthcare. A 2025 study in South India found that  62.6% of healthcare workers  had experienced workplace violence, with verbal abuse being the most common form. The study noted that younger, less experienced, and female healthcare workers are particularly vulnerable.

This case is a developing story, and further action is expected based on the findings of the police investigation.
