Over 4.40 Lakh Voters Face Deletion from Bhopal Electoral Rolls After SIR Exercise

More than 4.40 lakh names are set to be removed from Bhopal’s electoral rolls following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, election officials said on Wednesday. The large-scale verification drive identified voters who were deceased, permanently shifted, absent from registered addresses or listed multiple times.

According to the district election administration, over 33,000 voters were confirmed to be deceased during the exercise. A much larger number were found to have relocated permanently or could not be traced at their recorded addresses. In addition, more than 3,000 voters were detected as duplicate entries across polling rolls.

Officials said 1.21 lakh voters have been placed under the ‘No Mapping’ category, meaning their details could not be matched with the 2003 base electoral list. These voters will be issued formal notices and given 50 days to submit valid documents to establish their eligibility. Failure to do so will result in deletion of their names from the rolls.

The Election Administration has completed digitalisation of the SIR data in the district. A total of 16.83 lakh voter forms have been digitised as part of the process. Authorities said the exercise was conducted to ensure accuracy and transparency ahead of future electoral processes.

Verification of ASDR voters—classified as Absent, Shifted, Dead, Repeated and Others—was carried out through an extensive ground-level drive on December 15 and 16. As many as 551 officers, including Booth Level Officers and supervisors, were deployed across constituencies. District Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh also participated and personally verified voters during the exercise.

Assembly-wise data shows the highest number of proposed deletions in Govindpura, where nearly 98,400 voters have been flagged, followed by Narela and Bhopal Central. Berasia recorded the lowest number of discrepancies among the seven constituencies.

Election officials said the deletion process has begun strictly in line with prescribed guidelines. Notices to ‘No Mapping’ voters will be served shortly, providing a final opportunity to retain their voting rights before the rolls are finalised.
