Power cuts limited to five times a month in MP industrial areas

Madhya Pradesh government announced that industrial areas will now face a maximum of five power cuts per month to ensure smoother operations.
Now there will be power cuts maximum five times or five hours in a month in the industrial areas of Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission has set new standards for power cuts, in which there are different provisions for division headquarters, district headquarters and industrial areas.
To ensure that no system is affected due to power cuts in all the industrial areas of Madhya Pradesh, now power cuts can be done maximum five times or five hours in a month. Regarding this, Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission has set the standards for the number and hours of power cuts in industrial areas and 11 kV feeders. It has different criteria for division headquarters, district headquarters and industrial areas.
In division headquarters and district headquarters, power cuts have been fixed 25 times a month and maximum 15 hours. As per the set standards, efforts are being made by the year 2026-27 that consumers in big cities have to face the problem of power cuts only 90 times in a year, that too not more than 60 hours.
Standards for power cuts set afresh
Let us tell you that the Commission had set the distribution performance standards for the first time in the year 2012. It was amended in the year 2021. Now once again the Commission has set the standards for power cuts afresh, which has been instructed to be followed by the power companies. Power companies have also been recommended to strengthen their infrastructure to meet the set standards.
The Commission has directed that power companies should strengthen the infrastructure, use technology and trained manpower, so that the set standards can be achieved. If required, capital expenditure proposals should be sent to the Commission for approval.
This will be the roadmap for cities with a population of more than one lakh
The Commission has set a three-year roadmap for cities with a population of more than one lakh in the state. According to this, the maximum power cut for the year 2024-25 is fixed at 120 times and 90 hours. It has been targeted to be done for a maximum of 90 times and 60 hours in a year by the year 2025-26.
However, power companies have been exempted from these prescribed standards in case of natural calamities like floods, storms or such reasons for which permission of the commission has to be taken and the distribution system fails.
