Pregnant Woman Kidnapped in Gwalior After Gun Attack; Rescued After 20 Hours
Digital Desk
A pregnant woman, Reena (alias Anju Gurjar), was abducted at gunpoint by her former fiancé Yogendra Gurjar and his armed gang in a chilling incident in Gurja village, about 15 km from Tighra police station. After nearly 20 hours in captivity, she was found abandoned in the forests of Lanka Pahad on Thursday evening.
ARescue and Medical Care
Villagers alerted authorities after spotting a disoriented woman in the forest. Police rescued Reena and took her to Kamla Raja Hospital, where officials confirmed she is stable and recovering.
Attack by 20 Armed Men
The ordeal began Wednesday night when Yogendra, a wanted criminal from Morena, arrived with around 20 armed men. Eyewitnesses reported that the gang surrounded Reena’s house, fired bullets in the air to spread panic, assaulted family members, and forcibly abducted her. The assailants fled toward forests near the Morena border.
Crime Fueled by Rejection and Revenge
Yogendra’s engagement to Reena had been called off due to his criminal background. Reena married Girraj Gurjar about 18 months ago, which allegedly triggered Yogendra’s vendetta. Police say he intended to forcibly marry Reena and had repeatedly harassed and threatened her family.
Victim’s Account
Reena told police the gang was taking her to Morena but abandoned her after realizing they were being pursued. She was found exhausted and traumatized.
Background of the Conflict
The relationship between Reena and Yogendra began in 2023 while she was preparing for her B.Ed exams. Her family discovered Yogendra’s criminal history and arranged her marriage with Girraj. The conflict escalated in July 2024, when Yogendra fired over 100 rounds at her home to stop the wedding. Despite repeated threats, police preventive action had been minimal, emboldening the accused.
Criminal Record of the Accused
Yogendra is among Morena’s most wanted criminals, accused in multiple offenses including robbery, dacoity, murder, attempted murder, extortion, and illegal arms trade.
Ongoing Investigation
Gwalior SP Dharmveer Singh Yadav confirmed Reena’s safety and said police teams from Gwalior, Morena, and Sheopur are conducting joint raids with drone surveillance to capture Yogendra and his accomplices. Authorities appealed to locals to share information.
Family Statement
Reena’s father, Devendra Gurjar, described living under constant threat. “Before the wedding, he threatened to kill us if Reena didn’t marry him and fired rounds outside our house. Even after her marriage, we feared for our safety. This incident proves those fears were justified,” he said.
As the search continues, Reena remains under police protection, while authorities intensify efforts to apprehend one of the region’s most dangerous fugitives
