The body of 36-year-old priest Satish Sharma was discovered inside his car early Tuesday morning in the Mahalakshmi Nagar area of Indore, raising questions of suicide or homicide. The car, reportedly locked from the inside, was opened by police after breaking its windows, and a pistol was recovered from the scene.
According to Khajrana police, Sharma, son of Kailash Sharma, was found with a gunshot wound to the head. His body has been sent to MY Hospital for post-mortem, and investigators are examining all possible angles, including family disputes and external influence.
Sharma, a resident of Ashok Nagar district, served as a priest at a temple in Lasudia Mori, Indore. He is survived by his wife and two children. Sources said he left home late Monday night, telling his wife he was going to Patnipura to collect items for temple worship. When he failed to return by 11 PM, his relatives alerted the police and began searching for him. The vehicle was eventually found parked in a relatively secluded spot in Mahalakshmi Nagar early Tuesday.
Police are also exploring personal relationships as part of the investigation. Sharma was reportedly friends with a local girl, a connection that had caused tension within his family. Sources indicated that he spoke to her on Monday, and authorities are examining whether any coercion, harassment, or blackmail may have played a role in his death.
A senior police officer said, “At this stage, it is too early to conclude whether this is a case of suicide or foul play. We are collecting evidence from the scene, questioning family members, and investigating the nature of his associations. Forensic analysis of the pistol and the vehicle is underway.”
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, particularly among devotees of the temple where Sharma served. Authorities have assured that the investigation will be thorough, with both domestic and external motives being considered.
Residents in the area were surprised by the incident, citing Sharma’s active involvement in community rituals and temple management. Police are expected to release further updates once the post-mortem report and ballistic tests are complete.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges police face in distinguishing between potential suicides and staged murders, particularly when personal relationships and family disputes are involved.
