Railway Introduces New Initiative for Passenger Relief; TTE System Changed on Trains from Gwalior

After continuous complaints about seat shortages, waiting lists, and coach disorder, railway authorities have introduced a major change in the ticket-checking system. Traveling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) will no longer be assigned escort duty alone on trains. Instead, they will now work in coordinated teams to resolve passenger issues on the spot.

Officials said that under the previous system, TTEs were deployed individually on open duty across trains. Because they had to handle both ticket verification and revenue collection, passenger assistance often received less attention. This caused inconvenience, especially on long-distance routes, where families were sometimes allotted separate seats, leading to disputes.

Team System to Change Working Pattern
Under the new arrangement, each train will have a team of three to five TTEs. Each member will manage specific coaches while maintaining coordination with colleagues. The goal is not only to act against ticketless travel but also to assist with seat adjustments, help elderly and women passengers, and maintain order inside coaches.

Priority on High-Traffic Routes
The pilot project has been launched on trains with heavy passenger traffic. Initially, the system is being implemented on major trains departing from Gwalior toward northern, western, and southern regions of India. Currently, team-based ticket checking is being carried out on four to five trains daily to ensure quicker passenger assistance.

Feedback to Decide Expansion
Railway authorities stated the arrangement is presently on a trial basis. Future expansion will depend on passenger feedback and whether complaints decline. If successful, the system may be extended to other railway divisions and trains.

Passengers have welcomed the move, calling it a positive step. Many said that if TTEs prioritize passenger comfort and discipline inside coaches, rail travel could become more organized and convenient.
